A horrific road accident in Mumbai has claimed the life of an eight-year-old child, after a motorist using her mobile phone whilst behind the wheel ran over the young pedestrian. The tragedy unfolded on Sunday afternoon, 30 August, along John Baptist Road, a bustling thoroughfare in the suburban Bandra area of western Mumbai. Officers from the local police station named the suspect as 45-year-old Megha Rawal, who resides in the Bandra neighbourhood. Preliminary police findings indicate that Rawal was operating her car at excessive speed through the narrow urban corridor while deeply engrossed in a mobile telephone call. This critical lack of attention left her incapable of reacting or braking in time when the child stepped onto the roadway.
The violent impact caused catastrophic internal and external injuries. Nearby residents and bystanders immediately rushed to assist the stricken child, coordinating with emergency services to transport the victim to the nearby Holy Family Hospital in Bandra West.
