In a chilling case of premeditated violence, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive suspect in the murder of Imon Ahmad in Sylhet’s Beanibazar area. The apprehended individual, Sajidul Islam Munna, hails from Delutia in Ghatail upazila, Tangail district.
According to RAB, a joint operation by RAB-9 and RAB-14 on Friday in Kadamtoli, under Ghatail police jurisdiction, led to Munna’s arrest. Following his detention, he was handed over to Beanibazar police for further legal proceedings.
Police reports indicate that the victim, Imon Ahmad, was a resident of Khoshir Namnagar under Beanibazar police jurisdiction. On 7 December 2025, Imon went missing after leaving his home, prompting his family to file a general diary at the local police station.
Investigations revealed a shocking confession from one of the suspects, detailing that Imon had been deliberately lured to the banks of a pond in Shaleshwar, Sheola Union, where he was strangled to death. To conceal the crime, his hands and feet were bound, and his body was disposed of in the pond. During the incident, the perpetrators reportedly took possession of Imon’s prized iPhone 15 Pro Max.
On 10 December, police recovered Imon’s body from the pond with his hands and feet still bound. In response, the victim’s brother filed a formal murder case with Beanibazar police. Earlier, police had arrested another suspect, identified as Ashraful, in connection with the same case.
Authorities suspect that the brutal killing was sparked by a dispute over an iPhone, underscoring the tragic consequences of material disagreements escalating into violence.
