A tragic accident occurred in Patgram, Lalmonirhat, on Thursday morning (29 January), when 22-year-old Munna Mia lost his life after being struck by a train. According to railway authorities, the incident took place as Munna hurriedly attempted to board a local train arriving from Burimari before it had come to a complete stop.
Munna, the son of Khokon Mia, a local cloth merchant, resided in the Stationpara area of Ward No. 5, Patgram Municipality. Station Master Nur Alam of Patgram Railway Station confirmed that the young man suffered a fatal head injury as a result of the collision.
Eyewitnesses and railway officials reported that Munna had been standing beside the tracks at Patgram Railway Station at approximately 6:15 a.m., intending to travel to Lalmonirhat. The 456-numbered local train bound for Parbatipur, departing from Dinajpur, was entering the station at the time. Without waiting for the train to halt completely, Munna attempted to board, resulting in him being thrown onto the tracks by the train’s momentum. Emergency responders rushed him to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead.
Pradip Kumar Sarkar of Lalmonirhat Railway Police (GRP) stated, “A young man has died after being hit by a train. Forces have been deployed to the scene. Detailed information will be collected, and legal proceedings will follow once the preliminary report is completed.”
