A gang of armed robbers held five employees hostage during an audacious nocturnal raid on a textile knitting mill in Gazipur, making off with 7,350 kilograms of industrial yarn and cash valued collectively at around 3.15 million taka. The heist took place in the early hours of Saturday at Mirza Apparels Limited, an apparel manufacturing facility situated in the Bara Bhabanipur quarter of Kashimpur.
According to factory staff and police accounts, an organised group of between 10 and 15 armed men descended on the facility at approximately 3:00 am. Taking advantage of the darkness, the intruders scaled the perimeter boundary wall before cutting through iron window grilles and forcing open secured padlocks to penetrate the main production floor. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the assailants were armed with a combination of sharp, locally forged weapons and foreign handguns.
Once inside the premises, the gang moved swiftly to overpower the on-duty security guards and night-shift factory workers. The raiders held five employees at gunpoint, forcing them to the floor and binding their hands and feet with coarse jute ropes and cut strips of knitting fabric. Kept under armed watch and threatened with immediate violence should they raise an alarm, the captive workers could only watch as the gang systematically ransacked the facility.
The robbers broke the locks of the main loading gate, brought transport vehicles into position, and loaded dozens of sacks containing 7,350 kilograms of processed yarn worth roughly 3 million taka. Before making their getaway into the night, the gang also forced open the administrative office till, taking 150,000 taka in liquid cash.
Anisul Haque, Managing Director of Mirza Apparels Limited, explained that terrified staff members managed to alert him by telephone shortly after the gang fled the compound. He noted that the sudden loss of such a substantial consignment of raw material, alongside operating cash reserves, poses an immediate threat to the factory’s ongoing production commitments and tight export delivery schedules.
Recalling the terrifying sequence of events, Rabbi, an assistant knitting operator on duty during the robbery, described how the intruders stormed into the work area without warning. He stated that the armed men pinned everyone down instantly, bound them securely, and issued death threats while coordinating the removal of the bulk yarn.
Efforts to obtain comment from Molla Khalid, Officer-in-Charge of Kashimpur Police Station, were unsuccessful as he did not answer multiple telephone calls.
However, Shakil Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (Crime-North) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, confirmed the details of the robbery, noting that senior detectives have taken up the case with urgent priority.
