BAB Names Two New Vice Chairmen

The Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) has elected two new Vice Chairmen to its Executive Committee, following a unanimous decision taken at its 230th Executive Committee meeting.

The newly appointed Vice Chairmen are Mr Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, and Mr Sharif Zahir, Chairman of United Commercial Bank PLC. Their selection was formally announced through a press release issued after the meeting.

The decision was taken on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, at the 230th meeting of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Association of Banks. The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Mr Abdul Hai Sarker, who is the Chairman of BAB as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dhaka Bank PLC.

According to the announcement, both newly elected Vice Chairmen will serve for the remainder of the current tenure of the Executive Committee. This term is scheduled to end on 31 December 2026. Their responsibilities will form part of the leadership framework of BAB for the remaining period, supporting the functioning of the association’s executive body.

BAB is a national platform representing banks operating in Bangladesh. Its Executive Committee is responsible for organisational leadership and coordination among member banks. The Vice Chairmen assist in guiding the association’s activities and supporting its administrative and representative functions within the banking sector.

The press release stated that the appointments were made unanimously, reflecting a collective decision of the Executive Committee members present at the meeting. No dissenting votes were recorded during the process.

Following the decision, the Committee expressed confidence that the inclusion of the two newly elected Vice Chairmen would strengthen the overall leadership structure of BAB. The statement indicated that the leadership is expected to continue supporting the association’s role in maintaining coordination among member banks during the remainder of its current term.
