Bangladesh Retail Gold Prices Hike Amid Market Adjustments

Gold prices across domestic markets in Bangladesh have climbed following a recent upward revision by the Bangladesh Jeweller Association (Bajus). As trading commenced on Saturday, 22 August 2026, jewellery shops nationwide began implementing these newly adjusted figures, reflecting shifts in the valuation of pure gold and silver within local bullion markets.
The revision came into effect following a formal notification issued by the Bangladesh Jeweller Association on the morning of 20 August. According to the association, prevailing market conditions necessitated an increase of 3,849 Bangladeshi Taka per bhori for gold, alongside a corresponding upward adjustment for silver. The updated pricing structure became operative at 10:00 AM on the day of the announcement and remains standard across all licensed retail outlets.
Under the current pricing schedule, including applicable value-added tax, consumers purchasing 22-carat gold—equivalent to 11.664 grams per bhori—must pay 240,628 Taka. Meanwhile, 21-carat gold is priced at 229,781 Taka per bhori, and 18-carat gold stands at 197,355 Taka per bhori. Traditional method gold is trading at 161,196 Taka per bhori.
The Bangladesh Jeweller Association has clarified that these rates will remain active until further notice. While baseline prices are fixed, retail establishments are permitted to add crafting charges depending on the intricacy of individual jewellery designs. Because value-added tax is already integrated into the listed retail price of gold and silver ornaments, merchants are strictly prohibited from levying separate tax charges directly from buyers. Standard trade guidelines regarding old jewellery exchanges and purchases—excluding specific tax, making charges, and gem weights—continue to apply without alteration.
This latest adjustment follows an earlier price modification enacted by the Bangladesh Jeweller Association on the morning of 15 August. During that preceding revision, the price of 22-carat gold was raised by 2,158 Taka, establishing a rate of 236,779 Taka per bhori, alongside proportional increases for lower purities and traditional grades.
Market trackers note that precious metal pricing has experienced unprecedented volatility over recent cycles. With the current adjustments, domestic bullion markets have seen gold prices revised 105 times so far throughout 2026. This dynamic trading year has recorded 53 upward revisions, 51 downward cuts, and a single instance of tax standardisation. By comparison, the preceding year of 2025 witnessed a total of 93 price adjustments, comprising 64 increases and 29 reductions as retail sectors responded to global economic trends.
