Law enforcement authorities in Cumilla’s Muradnagar upazila have arrested a local Union Parishad member alongside a political activist affiliated with the banned Awami League under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The coordinated police operations took place during the early hours of Monday morning, targeting specific residences across the Muradnagar sadar union area.
According to local police reports, the targeted nocturnal raids were executed during the pre-dawn hours following specific intelligence inputs. Officers from the Muradnagar police station deployed teams to the adjoining villages of Dilalpur and Nagerkandi. The swift operations led to the apprehension of two primary suspects directly from their respective homes without encountering significant resistance.
The individuals detained have been identified as Md. Idris, a sitting member of the Muradnagar Sadar Union Parishad and a resident of Dilalpur village, whose father is Shamsul Haque. The second suspect is Md. Delowar Hossain from Nagerkandi village, son of Md. Bedon Mia, who is locally recognised as a leader linked to the recently banned political platform. Both men were immediately brought into custody and transferred to the police station for preliminary questioning regarding their alleged involvement in subversive activities.
Confirming the details of the arrests, Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Anwar Hossain Chowdhury stated that the accused individuals were implicated in grave offences under provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Following the completion of essential administrative formalities and initial police documentation, both suspects were produced before the local judicial magistrate’s court later that morning. The court ordered them to be remanded in jail custody while investigations continue. Local law enforcement units have indicated that security monitoring and targeted drives across the upazila will remain active to maintain public order and peace.
