BNP is chief patron of militants: Hasan

BNP is chief patron of militants: Hasan, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the minister of information and broadcasting, claimed today that the BNP and its leaders are harboring, patronizing, and funding the country’s militants, who are presently attempting to overthrow the government.

“When our government arrested the militants, BNP leader Begum Khaleda Zia had told that some people were arrested and detained and later they were called militants after growing up their hair and beard. But, actually there are no terrorists,” he said.

Added the minister: “A police box in Chattogram was attacked, accused criminals were taken out of court, and the nameplate of the Kanchpur Bridge was set on fire. The anarchy and arson attacks have resumed.” Hasan made this statement while speaking to a crowd at a Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ)-organized rally and human chain in front of the Central Sahaheed Minar in the city. Hasan claimed that the BNP’s support of the militants, terrorists, and fundamentalists is causing them to attempt a comeback. So, he continued, there is a connection between the militant incident and the BNP-led attempt to spread disorder throughout the nation.

He said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from his ancestral house in Thakurgaon few days ago had told that the ‘Pakistan regime was better’. In fact, Fakhrul’s father was a pro-Pakistani and he went into hiding for several days after the independence of the country, he added. Even, the minister said, it was heard that Mirza Fakhrul also went into hiding for several days. And now, he (Fakhrul) is declaring that they would make the country independent for the second time by bringing back Tarique Rahman, he added.

In fact, he said, BNP wants to make the country Pakistan. “In protest of this, the BSJ has organized the human chain today and I think it is a proper arrangement,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary. He said the countrymen get scared when BNP talks about Tarique Rahman as he is the symbol of corruption and terrorism. “The people of the country get shocked when they (BNP) talk about Tarique Rahman as he is the symbol of terrorism, violence and corruption to the countrymen,” he added.

He said Tarique is also the symbol of lootings by ‘Hawa Bhaban’ and a convicted accused of the much-talked-about 10-truck arms case. They will carry out protests in the country, which means they will start arson attacks and burn people alive again under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, he added.

Everyone should resist them (BNP), said Hasan. He said the Pakistani occupation forces had surrendered on December 16. The countrymen will compel them to surrender like the Pakistanis if the pro-Pakistani BNP men, including Mirza Fakhrul, try to create chaos in Dhaka on December 10 in the month of victory, said Hasan,

The minister predicted that the nation’s citizens would oppose them. He also exhorted everyone, particularly cultural workers and artists, to oppose the wicked influence. Singer Monoranjan Ghoshal, vice president of the BSJ, actor Shakil Khan, actress Tanvin Sweety, joint secretary Tarin Jahan, engineer Abu Noman Halder, Sujan Halder, Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Ashrafuzzaman, Lisa Kamal, Raj Sarker, Parul Akter Rupa, Sania Parvin, and AL leader Golam Rabbani were among those who spoke at the rally, which was presided over by Rafiqul Al Arun Sarker Rana, the general secretary of the BSJ, oversaw it.
