
A body of an unidentified man has been recovered from the Shitalakshya River in Raied Union under Kapasia Upazila in Gazipur District. The recovery was made by police on Sunday (10 May) afternoon after local residents spotted the body floating in the river and alerted the authorities.
According to local sources, people living near the riverbank noticed the body drifting in the water during the afternoon and immediately informed the police. Following the report, officers from Kapasia Police Station reached the scene without delay and initiated recovery operations.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the identity of the deceased could not be established at the time of recovery. The body was later retrieved from the river with assistance from local responders and police personnel.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kapasia Police Station, Shahinur Alam, stated that, in the initial assessment, it is believed that the body may have been carried downstream by the river current from an upstream location. He also confirmed that the matter has been communicated to the river police for further coordination and investigation.
Police teams conducted an on-site inquest, preparing the preliminary investigation report (sorothal report) as part of standard procedure. Following the recovery and documentation process, the body was sent for post-mortem examination to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue in Gazipur city.
Authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased and determine the exact cause of death. Necessary legal procedures have been initiated in this regard.
