A gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community after river police recovered the highly decomposed body of an unidentified woman from the Padma River in Faridpur. The grim find, which featured heavy concrete blocks and bricks tied to the victim’s garments to prevent the corpse from surfacing, points to a calculated and brutal homicide designed to conceal a crime.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when residents living near the riverbank in Ward 2 of the Dikrirchar Union spotted a body floating in the shallow waters of the Padma River around 7:00 AM. Terrified by the sight, locals immediately alerted the local administration and law enforcement authorities. Responding swiftly to the community’s call, a specialized team from the C&B Ghat River Police Outpost rushed to the location. By 11:00 AM, officers successfully retrieved the remains from the Kabirpur area within the same union.
According to preliminary police reports, the victim is estimated to be approximately 35 years of age. She was found wearing a traditional maxi dress and a scarf. However, the most chilling aspect of the recovery was the method used by the perpetrators; heavy bricks and cement construction blocks were securely tied to the woman’s scarf, evidently intended to sink the body into the deep riverbed permanently. Investigators believe that after spending roughly a week underwater, the corpse bloated due to decomposition, causing it to float to the surface alongside the heavy weights and drift toward the riverbank where it became trapped.
Given the suspicious and violent nature of the crime, specialized forensic units from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrived at the scene to collect physical evidence and examine the surroundings. Because the body had decomposed significantly over several days in the water, investigators were unable to extract fingerprints, leaving the victim’s identity entirely unknown for the time being.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Tapan Kumar Saha of the C&B Ghat River Police Outpost shared details of the preliminary findings with journalists, stating that authorities suspect the woman was murdered elsewhere approximately a week ago. The killers then allegedly bound her body with cement blocks and cast her into the turbulent currents of the Padma River to eliminate evidence.
The recovered remains have since been transferred to the morgue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed light on the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, local police have initiated formal legal proceedings and launched an intensive investigation to uncover the victim’s identity and bring those responsible for the heinous crime to justice.
