Bogura Officer Faces Bribery Allegation

Allegation of Money Demand Against Police Officer in BoguraAn allegation has been made against Inspector-in-Charge (IC) Kamruzzaman of the Stadium Police Outpost under Bogura Sadar Police Station, accusing him of demanding and receiving money during an operation at a veterinary medicine manufacturing company in Malgram area of Bogura Sadar Upazila.

The complainant, Md Neawaj Roni, a resident of Thakurgaon district, stated that he had been operating a veterinary pharmaceutical unit named “New Tech Veterinary” from a rented house in Malgram. He claims that despite having all valid documentation, he was subjected to pressure and financial demands following the incident.

According to local sources, on Monday, 5 May, a group of unidentified individuals along with three persons identifying themselves as journalists visited the factory premises and labelled the establishment as fraudulent. Following this, IC Kamruzzaman reportedly arrived at the scene. He then took the factory owner and the landlord to the police outpost under the pretext of verifying documents.

It is alleged that at the outpost, the matter was presented as a settlement issue. During this process, the three individuals claiming to be journalists allegedly received 10,000 taka, while IC Kamruzzaman allegedly received 30,000 taka. Two days later, on 7 May, the IC reportedly contacted the landlord again and demanded an additional 50,000 taka, stating that higher authorities, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), needed to be “managed”.

The complainant further alleged that he and the landlord were detained at the outpost and a total demand of 80,000 taka was made. He also stated that they were later released after part of the amount was paid.

He also claimed that further pressure was later exerted on the landlord through additional phone calls and visits.

According to available information, a call recording related to the alleged transactions and subsequent demands has been obtained by a reporter. However, its authenticity has not been independently verified.

Attempts to obtain a statement from IC Kamruzzaman at the Stadium Police Outpost were unsuccessful, as he was not present. When contacted by mobile phone and asked about the allegations, he disconnected the call after learning the nature of the inquiry. Repeated attempts to reach him thereafter were unsuccessful.

Bogura Superintendent of Police Mirza Abu Sayeem stated that he had been informed of the matter. He added that whether his name was used in connection with any monetary exchange could only be confirmed after an investigation. He further confirmed that an inquiry team has already been formed, and appropriate action will be taken if the allegations are substantiated.

The matter remains under official investigation within বগুড়া police administration.
