Brigadier General Motaher Hosein Reverted to Armed Forces

Brigadier General Syed Mohammad Motaher Hosein, the Director General of Prisons (IG Prisons), has been officially withdrawn from his deputation role within the civil administration and reverted to the Armed Forces Division. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a formal notification on Wednesday, 19 August, confirming the termination of his public service assignment and initiating his immediate repatriation to military command.

According to the official circular, Brigadier General Hosein was released from his duties at the Directorate of Prisons as part of a routine administrative realignment. Sources within the government confirmed that his return to the military precedes a major international posting. Following executive approval, he has been designated as the Advisor to the Defence Wing at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.

Brigadier General Hosein took charge as Inspector General of Prisons on 11 August 2024. Over his two-year tenure leading the prison service, he oversaw key administrative restructurings, enhanced security protocols across high-security correctional facilities, and managed operational reforms within the national penal system. Prison Directorate officials emphasized that his transition back to the armed forces marks a standard end to his deputation period.

His upcoming diplomatic assignment places him at the forefront of Bangladesh’s international defence commitments. In his new role as Defence Wing Advisor, Brigadier General Hosein will manage strategic security dialogue, liaise with UN military officials, and coordinate matters surrounding Bangladesh’s significant contributions to global peacekeeping operations.

The Ministry of Public Administration has not yet named a replacement for the Inspector General of Prisons post. Formal procedures for Brigadier General Hosein’s reassignment to the Bangladesh Army and his subsequent transfer to the diplomatic mission in New York are currently underway.
