A passenger bus lost control and overturned on the approach road of the Padma Bridge in Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila on Monday afternoon, leaving eight people injured and temporarily disrupting traffic on the vital transit route.

The accident took place around midday within the Mawa area. According to local emergency reports, the Dhaka-bound vehicle had departed from Magura and was carrying passengers toward the capital when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The speeding coach veered off its path, crashed into the roadside safety barrier, and tipped onto its side near the bridge slope.

The Srishnagar Fire Station received an urgent distress call at approximately 13:37. Two dedicated rescue units were immediately dispatched to the site. Firefighters swiftly secured the area, extracted the trapped passengers from the mangled wreckage, and loaded the injured into service ambulances for urgent medical evaluation at the Srishnagar Upazila Health Complex.

Preliminary assessments by rescue officials indicate that excessive speed likely played a primary role in the collision, causing the heavy vehicle to crash against the approach railing. The overturned coach partially blocked the thoroughfare, triggering a temporary slowdown in vehicular movement as emergency crews cleared debris and managed traffic flow. Transport authorities are continuing to examine the exact mechanical condition of the bus and investigate the precise factors leading up to the crash.
