Chattogram Board Exam Resumption Claim on 27 July Is False

A notice circulating on social media claiming that the postponed 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Chattogram Education Board would resume from 27 July according to the previously announced schedule has been declared completely false and deliberately misleading by the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee.

The committee said no such decision had yet been taken and that neither it nor the Chattogram Education Board had any connection with the notice being circulated online.

The clarification was issued on Tuesday, 21 July, in an urgent public notice signed by Professor Ma Banu, convener of the Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee and examination controller of the Dhaka Education Board.

According to the notice, a statement bearing the name of the Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee was being circulated on social media, claiming that the postponed examinations under the Chattogram Education Board would resume on 27 July under the previously announced timetable. The committee categorically rejected the claim, describing the notice as false and intentionally misleading.

The authorities also stressed that the circulated notice was not associated with either the Chattogram Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee.

Students and guardians have been urged to remain cautious about unverified information circulating on social media. The authorities said that all official decisions, notices and instructions concerning examinations would be published only through the official channels of the Ministry of Education, the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee and the respective education boards, including their official websites and verified Facebook pages.

The warning comes at a time when thousands of students and their families are waiting anxiously for clarity over the resumption of the postponed examinations. Any unofficial announcement about a new examination date can therefore create confusion among candidates, particularly those who need to make travel arrangements or prepare for examinations after a prolonged disruption.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chattogram Education Board examination controller Professor Dr Parvez Sazzad Chowdhury said that the flood situation had improved considerably and that conditions were now suitable for holding examinations. However, the board was still waiting for a final decision from the Ministry of Education and the Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee before restarting the examinations.

He said that the situation was now conducive to holding the examinations, but the board would proceed only after receiving approval from the higher authorities.

The remaining 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations under the Chattogram Education Board were postponed indefinitely on 16 July in response to the post-flood situation. The decision took into consideration the overall conditions in flood-affected areas, the physical and mental well-being of candidates and difficulties with road communication.

The suspension also covers the remaining examinations for Alim students under the Madrasa Education Board, as well as the outstanding subjects of the HSC Business Management and Technology (BMT), HSC Vocational and Diploma in Commerce examinations under the Technical Education Board.

The authorities have yet to announce a new date for the postponed examinations. A revised timetable will be issued separately once a final decision has been reached.

Until then, students and guardians have been advised not to rely on social media posts or unofficial notices. They have instead been urged to wait for formal announcements from the relevant education authorities to avoid confusion and unnecessary anxiety over the examination schedule.
