Police in Rupganj have detained two men during a targeted evening operation following intelligence reports of an impending armed clash in Narayanganj district.

The arrests took place on Wednesday night within the Chanpara Rehabilitation Centre settlement. Acting on specific information that individuals were gathering weapons to commit violent offences, a patrol team from Rupganj Police Station moved into the area and apprehended the two suspects on site.

Officers identified the arrested individuals as Russell Bepari and his son, Jewel Bepari, both local residents. During the raid, law enforcement personnel seized two locally manufactured firearms, commonly known as pipeguns, alongside three heavy sharp weapons, comprising two meat cleavers (chapati) and a traditional curved sword (ramda). Police confiscated the entire cache at the scene, though investigations remain ongoing to trace the exact origin of the weapons and determine the specific targets of the planned attack.

Confirming the operation, Officer-in-Charge A.H.M. Salauddin stated that timely police intervention successfully neutralized a significant threat to local public safety. A formal case under the Arms Act has been registered at Rupganj Police Station. Following preliminary processing and questioning, both men were transferred to the Narayanganj District Court on Thursday to face legal proceedings.

The Chanpara Rehabilitation Centre, a densely populated settlement near the Shitalakshya River, has long presented complex law enforcement challenges due to recurring turf wars and organized criminal activity. Local residents routinely raise concerns over the proliferation of illegal arms and gang violence in the area. Police officials emphasized that heightened patrolling and targeted sweeps will continue across the sub-district to curb illicit weapon possession and maintain public order.
