
A devastating fire in Raozan, Chattogram, has destroyed six residential houses and killed seven cattle in the early hours of Tuesday (12 May). The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 am at Noa Mia’s residence in Ward No. 1 of Mongolkhal village under Raozan Sadar Union.
According to local residents and Fire Service sources, the fire is believed to have originated from a mosquito coil lit inside a cattle shed during the night. The flames then spread rapidly to nearby structures, engulfing five residential houses and the kitchen of another house. All six structures were completely burned down.
The affected residents are Abul Kalam, Samsul Alam, Fazlur Rahman, Abdur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, and Abu Taher, all from the same household cluster. As a result of the fire, seven cattle belonging to Abul Kalam, including two animals that had been prepared for sale at the upcoming Qurbani livestock market, were burned to death. Only one calf was successfully rescued alive.

Victim Abul Kalam stated that the cattle lost included two animals prepared for sale at the Qurbani livestock market, with an estimated value of around 800,000 BDT. He added that he was unable to salvage any household belongings except a lungi and a T-shirt.
He further reported that only one calf could be rescued alive from the cattle shed, while all other livestock were destroyed in the fire. The sudden spread of the flames left residents with no opportunity to save their possessions.
Raozan Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Shamsul Alam confirmed that two fire service units were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the alert. However, by the time firefighters arrived, all seven cattle and several houses had already been destroyed by the blaze. Firefighters later brought the situation under control.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are currently under investigation.
