In Barishal’s Uzirkpur Upazila, miscreants set fire to the Guthiya Union BNP office in the early hours of Thursday. Locals reported that around 3 a.m., a group of unidentified individuals poured petrol inside the office and set it alight before fleeing. Residents nearby rushed to extinguish the flames, but the office property and interior were damaged by the fire.
Initial assessments suggest that the arson may have been carried out to enforce the banned Awami League’s announced lockdown programme.
Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salam of Uzirkpur Police Station stated that police have been dispatched to the scene. Necessary legal action will follow after a thorough investigation.
