A deep sense of anxiety and panic has gripped a rural community in northwestern Bangladesh after four schoolgirls vanished without a trace. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Baliadangi Upazila of Thakurgaon district. The girls, who are all close friends, neighbours from the same village, and students at the same local school, left their respective homes under the pretext of attending private morning tuition. They never returned.

The missing group comprises three Year 10 students and one Year 8 student. As afternoon turned to evening with no sign of the children, frantic families began searching neighbouring areas, houses of relatives, and local coaching centres. Their efforts yielded no clues.
Fearing for the safety of the young girls, the distraught parents approached the authorities late on Tuesday night. Individual general diaries (GDs) were subsequently filed at the Baliadangi Police Station, officially launching a law enforcement investigation.
The case took a bewildering turn on Wednesday morning. One of the missing girls placed a brief phone call to her father’s mobile phone. During the short conversation, she reportedly assured him that they were all safe and doing well. However, before she could disclose their physical location or explain the circumstances of their departure, the line went dead.
Since that abrupt communication, the mobile number used to make the call has remained switched off. The sudden contact has raised more questions than answers, leaving families and investigators struggling to determine whether the adolescents fled voluntarily or are being manipulated by outside elements. Relatives maintain they are entirely unaware of any hidden grievances, disputes, or external infatuations that might have prompted a coordinated flight.
The domestic atmosphere in the affected village has become one of absolute despair. Speaking to local reporters, the father of one of the missing teenagers expressed the excruciating toll of the unknown. He noted that the family remains completely in the dark regarding the girls’ wellbeing, what they are eating, or where they are sleeping.
The mother of another student broke down in tears whilst describing her helplessness. She stated that the family cannot comprehend what has happened to their daughters and pleaded with the administration to locate and return the children safely.
The local police administration has treated the matter with utmost urgency. Bulboul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baliadangi Police Station, confirmed that multiple teams are actively working to trace the students. Investigators are currently utilising digital tracking technology to pinpoint the geographical origin of Wednesday morning’s phone call.
The police are exploring all possible angles, including tracking local transport routes and questioning acquaintances. Law enforcement officials remain optimistic about a swift breakthrough, with the OC reassuring the families that they expect to rescue the four schoolgirls and reunite them with their parents shortly.
