Garment Worker Killed in Alleged Domestic Attack

A 27-year-old garment worker was allegedly killed by her husband with a sharp weapon following a domestic dispute in Sreepur, Gazipur, in the early hours of Sunday. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. at a rented house owned by a local resident, Majnu Mia, in the Gargaria Masterbari area of Sreepur Municipality. The information was confirmed by Sreepur Police Station’s Inspector (Operations), Sanjoy Saha.

The victim, Nasima Akter, was originally from Koilashpur Bonpara village in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district. She was the daughter of the late Abdur Razzak and had been working at a garment factory in Sreepur to support her family. She lived in the rented accommodation with her husband, Saidul Islam, and the couple had two children.

According to Nasima’s brother, Masum Ahmed, he also works in the garment sector and lives in a nearby rented house. He said fellow tenants alerted him at around 3:30 a.m., prompting him to rush to his sister’s residence.

Upon entering the house, he found Nasima lying on the floor in a pool of blood with severe injuries. By the time he arrived, Saidul had already fled. With the help of neighbours, Nasima was taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician pronounced her dead shortly after her arrival.

Masum Ahmed alleged that his sister’s marriage had initially been stable, but relations deteriorated after Saidul allegedly became addicted to drugs. He claimed the couple had frequent arguments over the issue, although Nasima had chosen to remain in the marriage for the sake of their two children.

He further alleged that it was Saidul who attacked his sister with a sharp weapon before escaping. These allegations are now part of the police investigation.

Dr Shafiqul Islam, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the victim was brought to the hospital after she had already died. Hospital authorities immediately informed the police. Preliminary observations revealed multiple sharp-force injuries on her body, consistent with a violent assault.

Inspector Sanjoy Saha said officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the report. Police collected evidence from the residence and began interviewing witnesses as part of the investigation.

According to the investigating officer, preliminary findings suggest the killing may have been triggered by a domestic dispute. He confirmed that the victim sustained multiple injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon and that legal proceedings are being initiated.

Police have launched an operation to locate and arrest Saidul Islam. Investigators said forensic evidence, witness statements and the post-mortem examination will play a key role in establishing the exact sequence of events.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and a murder case is expected to be filed. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and that appropriate legal action will be taken once all the evidence has been examined.

The incident has shocked residents of the neighbourhood, with local people expressing hope that the suspect will be arrested quickly and that the case will be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice for the victim.
