Police in Jhikargacha upazila of Jessore have recovered the mutilated body of a young man beside the Jessore–Benapole highway, in what investigators believe was a brutal killing carried out with sharp weapons.
The deceased was identified as Abu Huraira Mim, 25, son of Moshiar Rahman, also known locally as Moshir, from Kirtipur village in Jhikargacha municipal area. His body was discovered early on বৃহস্পতিবার morning beneath a bamboo grove adjacent to a roadside property near the highway.
According to local residents, passers-by first noticed the body lying near a roadside drainage channel and immediately informed police. Officers from Jhikargacha Police Station later arrived at the scene and prepared an inquest report before sending the body for post-mortem examination.
Initial observations by investigators suggest that Mim suffered severe injuries to the head inflicted by a sharp weapon, possibly a machete or cleaver. Police suspect he may have been murdered elsewhere before the body was dumped beside the highway in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Victim’s Family in Mourning
Family members said Mim was the elder of two brothers. He leaves behind two daughters, including a newborn baby aged only 21 days. Relatives described the victim as a quiet individual who had no known conflicts with anyone in the area.
Although he had previously worked as a battery-powered easy-bike driver, relatives said he had recently been unemployed and spent most of his time at home.
Mim’s cousin, Maruf, expressed shock over the killing and said the family could not understand why anyone would target him.
“He had no known enemies or disputes in the locality. We are devastated and still trying to understand who could commit such a horrific act,” he said.
Police Investigation Underway
Jhikargacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gholam Kibria confirmed the incident and stated that officers responded immediately after receiving information about the body near the municipal boundary pillar along the Jessore–Benapole highway.
He said deep wounds consistent with attacks by sharp weapons were visible on the victim’s head. The body has since been transferred to the Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police have already launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the killing. Authorities are also examining whether the victim may have been attacked in another location before being transported to the roadside bamboo grove.
A murder case is currently being prepared in connection with the incident.
