The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, with Towhid Hridoy retaining the captaincy after regular skipper Litton Das was rested despite recovering from injury.
Hridoy, who led Bangladesh during the recent T20I series against Australia in Litton’s absence, has once again been entrusted with the leadership role. Litton missed the Australia series because of injury but has since returned to competitive cricket and is currently part of Bangladesh’s squad for the One-Day International series against Zimbabwe. The selectors, however, have opted to leave him out of the T20I squad as part of their workload management plans, allowing Hridoy to continue as captain in the shorter format.
The decision reflects the team’s effort to maintain continuity following Hridoy’s leadership stint against Australia while also managing the workload of senior players during a busy international schedule.
The squad features the return of experienced all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and middle-order batter Yasir Ali Chowdhury, both of whom have been recalled after spending time out of the national T20 setup. Fast-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has also earned a place in the squad after missing the Australia series.
On the other hand, Soumya Sarkar and Shamim Hossain Patwary have been left out of the squad. Their omission makes room for returning players as Bangladesh continues to assess combinations ahead of future international assignments.
The batting unit includes Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mohammad Saif Hassan alongside captain Hridoy, while Nurul Hasan Sohan provides experience behind the stumps. The all-round department has been strengthened by the inclusion of Mosaddek Hossain, Sheikh Mehedi and Saifuddin.
Bangladesh’s spin attack will be spearheaded by Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain and Sheikh Mehedi, while the pace department features the experienced Mustafizur Rahman and Shariful Islam, supported by the promising Nahid Rana and Abdul Gaffar Saklain.
The three-match T20I series will be played entirely at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, one of Zimbabwe’s most established international venues. The opening match is scheduled for 15 July, followed by the second fixture on 17 July and the final match on 19 July. All three games will begin at 4:30 pm Bangladesh time.
The series will provide Bangladesh with another opportunity to test its squad depth and leadership options in the shortest format. With several senior players being rotated and a number of returning cricketers eager to cement their places, the tour is expected to play an important role in shaping the team’s plans for upcoming international competitions.
Bangladesh T20I squad: Towhid Hridoy (captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Mohammad Saif Hassan, Mosaddek Hossain, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Sheikh Mehedi, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saklain.
