The league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has officially concluded, following a series of highly competitive fixtures that determined the final four contestants for the play-off rounds. In a dramatic final day of league action, Rajasthan Royals successfully navigated the necessary mathematical equations to secure the final available spot, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished at the summit of the points table.

The 2026 season witnessed an exceptionally close race at the top of the standings. Upon completion of the league phase, three teams—Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad—all finished with an identical total of 18 points. Consequently, the final rankings were decided by Net Run Rate (NRR). Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured the first position due to their superior NRR, followed by Gujarat Titans in second and Sunrisers Hyderabad in third.
Rajasthan Royals claimed the fourth and final play-off berth, finishing their campaign with 16 points. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, despite a valiant effort, narrowly missed out on qualification, ending their season in fifth place with 15 points.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalised the schedule for the knockout stages. As per the IPL format, the top two teams will compete in “Qualifier 1,” where the winner earns a direct entry into the final. The third and fourth-placed teams meet in the “Eliminator,” a high-stakes match where the losing side is immediately knocked out of the competition.
Qualifier 1 (26 May): Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Gujarat Titans. The winner of this encounter will become the first finalist of the 2026 season.
Eliminator: Sunrisers Hyderabad will compete against Rajasthan Royals. The loser of this match will be eliminated, while the winner will progress to “Qualifier 2” to face the loser of the first qualifier.
Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged as the standout performers of the season, defying expectations with a formidable batting line-up and consistent execution on the field. Their aggressive approach allowed them to dominate several key fixtures, securing their play-off spot with authority. Conversely, established powerhouses Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians struggled throughout the season, failing to find consistency and ultimately disappointing their respective fanbases by failing to progress beyond the league stage.
With the stage now set for 26 May, the focus shifts to the knockout rounds where the remaining four teams will vie for the prestigious IPL trophy.
