Kings Overcome Mohammedan After Lead

Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a setback in the Bangladesh Football League following a 2–1 defeat against reigning champions Bashundhara Kings in Cumilla, despite taking an early lead in the match. The result came after Mohammedan had registered two consecutive victories in the competition.

The fixture was played at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium, where Mohammedan initially looked well positioned to extend their positive run. However, Kings recovered strongly to secure all three points and consolidate their position at the top of the table.

Match Summary and Key Moments

The opening exchanges saw both sides create opportunities. In the 10th minute, a pass from Saad Uddin into the penalty area was safely collected by Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon Hossain before it could pose a serious threat. Eight minutes later, Mohammedan’s Saurav Dewan missed a clear opportunity, failing to beat goalkeeper Anisur Rahman despite being one-on-one. Dewan had previously scored a hat-trick against Arambagh in the 13th round.

Mohammedan took the lead in the 28th minute. After a composed build-up, Saiful Hossain delivered a measured pass into the box, allowing Uzbek midfielder Mozafarov to finish precisely into the corner of the net, giving Mohammedan a 1–0 advantage.

Kings responded by increasing attacking pressure. Their efforts were rewarded in first-half stoppage time when Faisal Ahmed converted from close range following a pass from Rakib Hossain, restoring parity before the break.

Tensions rose in the 44th minute following a foul incident, resulting in a booking for Kings defender Bishwanath Ghosh.

In the second half, Kings gradually took control. Mohammedan’s defensive instability was exposed in the 61st minute, although Shahriar Emon failed to capitalise, shooting off target. Mohammedan also missed another opportunity in the 67th minute through Saurav Dewan.

A minute later, Kings completed their comeback. Doryelton Gomes scored from a pass by Faisal Ahmed, putting Kings ahead 2–1. This goal marked his 15th in 13 league appearances this season.

Other Match Result

In another fixture of the day, Arambagh Krira Sangha drew 2–2 with Brothers Union at the Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj. The match was disrupted following a controversial disciplinary incident.

At the centre of the disruption was a decision in the 32nd minute when referee Bituraj initially issued a straight red card to Arambagh’s Kwame Kizito. Following strong protests from Arambagh players, the decision was revised and downgraded to a yellow card. This change, however, led to further objection from Brothers Union players.

The match was halted for approximately 14 minutes due to the incident, and an additional 15 minutes of stoppage time was added in the first half.
