Police in Shibalaya, Manikganj, have arrested a 27-year-old man with 600 yaba tablets during an anti-drug operation.
The arrested man has been identified as Kawsar Hossain, 27, son of Akbar Hossain of Chhota Ayat Khan village in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur.
According to police, the operation was conducted at around 5.45pm on Wednesday, 30 September, in the Kalagachhia area of Shibalaya upazila. Officers carried out the operation beside the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, in front of Madhumati CNG and LPG Limited.
Police said Kawsar was detained during the operation and 600 yaba tablets were recovered from his possession. The seized tablets weighed approximately 60 grams in total, according to the authorities.
Police estimated the illegal market value of the recovered yaba at around Tk180,000.
The seizure was made during a routine anti-drug drive in the area. The Dhaka-Aricha Highway is an important road connection through Manikganj, and police operations along major transport routes form part of wider efforts to prevent the movement of illegal drugs. However, the information released by police did not specify where the tablets had allegedly come from or where they were being taken.
Shibalaya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aminul Islam said a case had been filed against Kawsar under relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
He also said police operations against drugs would continue.
The arrest and seizure are now subject to the legal process. Details about the alleged source of the yaba, its intended destination or whether anyone else was involved were not immediately available.
Police said the investigation would proceed in accordance with the case filed under the relevant provisions of the law. The allegations against the arrested man will ultimately be determined through the legal process.
