Meeting between Chief of Army Staff and US Ambassador

Dhaka — Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman yesterday received United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment for a courtesy meeting. The official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Army confirmed that during the engagement, both the Army Chief and the Ambassador’s delegation exchanged cordial greetings and discussed matters of mutual interest.

The discussions highlighted the longstanding friendly ties between the Bangladesh and United States armed forces, as well as avenues for further bilateral cooperation. Parallelly, the newly appointed US Ambassador also held a similar courtesy meeting with Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force, at the Air Force Headquarters.

During the Air Force engagement, both sides emphasised ongoing collaboration, strategic interests, and expressed optimism about strengthening military and strategic bonds. The meetings provided a platform for exchanging views on regional security, operational cooperation, and future partnership opportunities.

Separately, General Waker-uz-Zaman conducted a high-level consultation in Sylhet regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections and referenda. Prior to the discussion, the Army Chief undertook a detailed inspection of the Sylhet area.

The meeting focused on ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a peaceful, impartial, and transparent manner. Emphasis was placed on inter-institutional coordination, comprehensive security management, and the professional conduct of armed forces personnel. General Waker-uz-Zaman stressed the importance of professionalism, neutrality, discipline, patience, and citizen-oriented behaviour among officers during electoral deployment.
