Marking the sacred occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi with deep religious solemnity and immense public participation, the traditional 55th Jashne Julus was successfully held in Chattogram. From Wednesday morning, a massive influx of people transformed streets and surrounding areas across the port city into a sea of devoted followers. The grand procession commenced from the Alamgir Khanqah-e-Qaderia Syedia area adjacent to the Sholashahar Jamea Ahlia Sunnia Kamil Madrasah, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees.
The 12th day of Rabiul Awal holds profound significance for Muslims worldwide. According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah within the Quraysh lineage on this day in 570 CE. His father, Abdullah, passed away prior to his birth, and he lost his mother, Amina, at the tender age of six. He subsequently spent his childhood and youth under the guardianship of his uncle, Abu Talib.
Throughout his twenty-three years of prophetic life, the Prophet disseminated teachings centered on monotheism, justice, equality, compassion, humanity, and peace. He championed fundamental human rights and elevated moral standards while orchestrating vast religious and social transformations across Arabian society. He passed away in Madinah in 632 CE at the age of sixty-three. Across the Muslim world, the 12th of Rabiul Awal is observed through diverse religious programmes dedicated to remembering his birth and exemplary life. The day is also observed as a public holiday in Bangladesh.
Chattogram’s Jashne Julus has long maintained its reputation as one of the largest religious processions in the country. Organisers note that the tradition was first introduced in Chattogram back in 1974 under the spiritual guidance of Allama Hafez Syed Muhammad Tayyeb Shah (R.). Since that inception, the event has been organised consecutively every single year to observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking its landmark 55th iteration this season.
Allama Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, the Sajjadanashin of Darbar-e-Sirikot, led this year’s procession alongside prominent religious figures. Preceding the march, congregations gathered for special milad, doa, and spiritual speeches before the procession advanced along its designated route. Countless citizens lined the sidewalks, footpaths, and building rooftops along various urban thoroughfares to witness the grand spectacle.
Anticipating a massive turnout, organisers welcomed participants travelling from beyond Chattogram city limits. Festive energy permeated numerous metropolitan neighbourhoods since early morning, with many attendees carrying religious flags, banners, and decorative placards. However, the core atmosphere remained anchored in profound reverence, love for the Holy Prophet, and remembrance of his noble lifestyle.
The procession traversed key city arteries before heading toward the main Julus grounds, where scheduled religious programmes included recitation of naat, the Zohr prayers, and concluding supplications. Authorities and administration implemented rigorous security and crowd-management protocols to maintain order throughout the massive gathering, supported by a large contingent of volunteer personnel.
For countless devotees, the Jashne Julus in Chattogram extends far beyond a simple procession; it serves as an annual spiritual anchor to reflect upon the teachings and character of the Prophet. The sheer volume of participants year after year underscores the profound social and religious weight of the observance, carrying forward a legacy that once again filled the metropolitan streets with immense spiritual devotion.
