In a targeted anti-narcotics operation on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway, police in Chattogram have arrested a man in possession of 500 Yaba tablets while he was travelling as a passenger on a long-distance bus. The arrest was made during a special checkpoint operation conducted by Jorarganj Police Station under Mirsarai upazila.
The detainee has been identified as Oli Ullah (30), a resident of Darianagar area in Borochhara of Jhilongja Union under Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. Authorities confirmed that he was intercepted late on Tuesday night at approximately 1:30 am in the Uttar Sonapahar area of Baraiyarhat Municipality.
According to police sources, the operation was launched following confidential intelligence indicating that a consignment of illegal narcotics was being transported by bus towards Dhaka. Acting on the information, officers set up a temporary checkpoint near the bus stand area in front of the Hanif Enterprise counter along the highway. The bus involved was a Dhaka-bound coach operating under registration number Dhaka Metro-B-15-1204.
During routine inspection, law enforcement officers searched the passengers and discovered that Oli Ullah was seated in seat ‘E-3’. Upon a detailed physical search, police recovered 500 Yaba tablets concealed in a specially prepared hiding arrangement on his person.
Authorities stated that the suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene. A case has been formally filed under the Narcotics Control Act, and he has already been produced before the relevant judicial court following due legal procedures.
