Bangladesh all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain has marked his return to international cricket in remarkable fashion, earning a place on the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) shortlist for the Men’s Player of the Month award for June. The nomination comes after a series of influential performances with both bat and ball, underlining his successful comeback to the national side after an absence of nearly four years.
The ICC announced the nominees for its monthly awards on Monday, with Mosaddek joined on the three-man shortlist by New Zealand fast bowler Nathan Smith and India opener Shubman Gill. The trio were selected in recognition of their outstanding performances throughout June, having each made a significant impact for their respective national teams.
For Mosaddek, the nomination represents far more than individual recognition. It is also a reflection of Bangladesh’s growing competitiveness on the international stage. Returning to international cricket after such a lengthy spell away from the national team is rarely straightforward, yet the experienced all-rounder has wasted little time in proving his value.
His performances during Bangladesh’s historic One-Day International series against Australia were particularly impressive. Delivering valuable contributions with both bat and ball, Mosaddek played a pivotal role in helping Bangladesh secure a landmark ODI series victory over Australia for the first time. His ability to produce crucial runs under pressure, combined with disciplined and effective bowling, made him one of the standout performers of the series.
Throughout the month, Mosaddek repeatedly demonstrated his versatility—an attribute that has long defined his game. Whether stabilising the innings with responsible batting or breaking important partnerships with the ball, he consistently delivered when his team required him most. Those performances have not only strengthened Bangladesh’s squad but have also restored his reputation as one of the country’s most dependable all-round cricketers.
Competition for the award, however, is expected to be fierce. India’s Shubman Gill enjoyed another prolific month with the bat, continuing his reputation as one of the world’s leading opening batters through a series of composed and high-scoring innings. New Zealand paceman Nathan Smith also impressed, producing a number of match-winning spells and establishing himself as one of his side’s most effective bowling options during June.
The ICC has confirmed that supporters will be able to cast their votes until 18 July. The eventual winner will be determined through a combination of fan voting and the assessment of an independent panel of ICC experts, ensuring that both public support and on-field performances contribute to the final decision.
For Mosaddek, receiving an ICC Player of the Month nomination so soon after returning to the national side is a significant personal milestone. It highlights not only his resilience in overcoming a prolonged absence but also his determination to re-establish himself at the highest level of international cricket.
Should he go on to win the award, it would rank among the most notable achievements of his career and provide another welcome boost for Bangladesh cricket. The nomination itself reflects the encouraging progress the national team has made in recent months and reinforces the growing recognition of Bangladesh’s performers on the global stage.
