Mother and Child Murder Case Reported

A woman and her three-year-old daughter were allegedly murdered and buried following a domestic dispute involving a long-term extramarital relationship, according to police statements in Faridpur.

Authorities said that Md. Uzzal Khan, who has been detained, confessed during interrogation to killing Jahanara Begum (30) and her daughter Samia (3) by strangulation and subsequently burying their bodies at the scene in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Additional Superintendent of Police Fatema Islam of Faridpur stated that the accused was arrested on 16 May following an investigation initiated after the recovery of the bodies. The case was filed by the father of the deceased, Md. Lalon Molla, at Kotwali Police Station. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Abu Bakar Molla used preliminary investigation techniques and information technology support to identify and detain the suspect. A spade allegedly used in the burial was also recovered.

Police said that Jahanara Begum, wife of Amzad Sheikh from Korbona village under Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district, and Md. Uzzal Khan were both employed as labourers at a brick kiln in Aminbazar, Dhaka. A romantic relationship developed between them over approximately three years.

According to the investigation, tensions arose when Jahanara allegedly pressured Uzzal to marry her. On 4 May, Uzzal contacted Jahanara by mobile phone and asked her to meet him at Jamtola Bazar. Later that day, after attending a milad mahfil at a relative’s house, Jahanara went to the location accompanied by her daughter Samia.

Police further stated that Uzzal took them to a secluded pond area in Kalitala under Char Madhabdia union of Faridpur Sadar upazila. A dispute occurred there regarding their relationship and marriage. At approximately 11:30 pm, Uzzal allegedly struck Jahanara in the chest, causing her to lose consciousness, and then strangled her to death. He subsequently strangled the child Samia as well.

After the killings, he allegedly returned home, collected a spade, dug a pit near the pond, buried the bodies, and covered the site with banana plants before leaving. Police said he remained at the location until late at night and acted alone.

The bodies were recovered on 14 May from the pond area in Kalitala after remaining missing for 11 days.
