Nahid Rana Set for PSL Final

Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is set to participate in the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), following confirmation of his availability for the decisive match in Lahore on 3 May.

Rana had previously returned home midway through the PSL season. He later featured in the One Day International series against New Zealand, where he produced a notable performance and was awarded the Player of the Series. Despite this achievement, he is not part of Bangladesh’s current T20 International squad.

Following the ODI series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that Rana would remain in the country to prepare for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan scheduled for next month. On that basis, he was initially not expected to return to Pakistan for the remainder of the PSL. Another Bangladesh fast bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, was also unavailable for the tournament due to injury.

However, permission has now been granted for Rana to feature in the PSL final. On social media platform X, Peshawar Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi publicly thanked Bangladesh’s interim BCB president Tamim Iqbal for allowing the player’s participation in the final.

In an official statement, the BCB confirmed that Rana has been permitted to play in the PSL final. The board stated that the decision was taken after considering the importance of participation in the final of a global franchise tournament, which is regarded as a significant opportunity for player development. It also confirmed that clearance was provided by the team management and the board’s medical unit.

The PSL final is scheduled to take place in Lahore on 3 May. Peshawar Zalmi have already secured their place in the final after winning the first qualifier. Their opponent will be determined from the remaining playoff contenders, including Hyderabad Kingsman, Multan Sultans, and Islamabad United.

This season marks Nahid Rana’s debut in overseas franchise cricket. Representing Peshawar Zalmi, he has played four matches in the competition so far. During these appearances, he has taken seven wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 5.42 runs per over, reflecting his performance in the tournament to date.
