Najmul Hossain Shanto Hits Century As Taijul Islam Bags Five

The transition in format and the nature of the tournament brought no change to the exceptional form of Najmul Hossain Shanto. The batsman successfully carried his rich vein of form from the recent series against Pakistan into the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), registering a magnificent century to guide Abahani Limited to a commanding victory.

On a day thoroughly dominated by batsmen, Irfan Sukkur, Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, and Enamul Haque Enam also reached three-figure milestones for their respective teams. Alongside the run fest, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam produced a masterclass in spin bowling. Representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, Taijul claimed a five-wicket haul to orchestrate a massive 237-run victory over Gulshan Cricket Club at the BKSP Ground 4.

Abahani Limited Secure Comfortable Nine-Wicket Victory

At the ULAB Cricket Ground, Agrani Bank Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first against Abahani Limited. However, their batting lineup collapsed under sustained pressure, bundling out for a modest 178 runs in 42.1 overs. Batting at number six, Nasir Hossain offered the only notable resistance, scoring a 58-ball 56.

The Abahani bowling unit delivered a coordinated performance, with skipper Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Rohanat Doullah Borson, Rakibul Hasan, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby, and Syed Khaled Ahmed picking up two wickets each.

In reply, Abahani Limited chased down the 179-run target with absolute ease, cruising to a nine-wicket victory with 110 balls to spare. Opening batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto was adjudged the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 108 off 90 deliveries, an aggressive innings punctuated by seven boundaries and seven maximums. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon anchored the chase with a solid 56 runs, whilst fellow opener Jishan Alam fell early for just 6 runs to bowler Sandipan Ray Chowdhury.

Mohammedan Sporting Club Demolish Gulshan Cricket Club

At the BKSP Ground 4, Mohammedan Sporting Club displayed total batting dominance after being asked to bat first. Although no batsman scored a century, three half-centuries propelled the team to a massive total of 345 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Skipper Towhid Hridoy led from the front with a brilliant 86, whilst veteran wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim and Afif Hossain Dhrubo contributed vital scores of 72 and 55 runs respectively.

Chasing a monumental target of 346, Gulshan Cricket Club completely crumbled against Taijul Islam’s spin wizardry. They were bowled out for a meager 108 runs in 33.2 overs. Taijul was named Player of the Match after returning phenomenal figures of 5 for 26 from 9.2 overs, which included a maiden over.

DPL Match Highlights:
