Police in Siddhirganj have taken a 25-year-old madrasa teacher into official custody following accusations of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student.
The suspect, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, was restrained by local residents on Wednesday afternoon at the Tanjilul Quran Pre-Cadet Madrasa, situated in the Kadamtali Nayapara neighborhood within Ward 7 of the Narayanganj City Corporation. The crowd subsequently handed him over to arriving police officers. Abdullah, a native of the Shantingar area in Tangail’s Nagarpur upazila, works as a resident instructor at the local educational institution.
The Allegations and Neighborhood Intervention
Details from the preliminary police report indicate that the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The teacher reportedly targeted the young student while he was alone at his family residence. Relatives alleged that the suspect coerced the boy into silence following the assault, threatening him with severe beatings and further violence if he disclosed the matter.
Despite the intimidation, the victim reported the ordeal to his mother on Wednesday afternoon. As news of the incident spread across the Nayapara locality, an agitated group of local residents assembled at the madrasa. They confronted the teacher inside the building, detained him, and alerted the police station.
Police Custody and Legal Proceedings
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to the emergency call, arriving at the madrasa compound to take custody of the suspect and maintain public order.
Mohammad Emdadul Haq, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, confirmed that the instructor was taken into custody based on the family’s formal allegations. He stated that police have initiated statutory investigative procedures and that the process of filing a regular criminal case under child protection laws is currently underway. Arrangements are also being made for the young victim to undergo standard medical evaluation at a district hospital to support the ongoing police investigation.
