National Life Insurance Celebrates 42nd Anniversary

National Life Insurance Company, one of Bangladesh’s leading life insurance providers, observed its 42nd founding anniversary on Thursday (23 April) with a series of programmes held at its head office in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka (NLI Tower). The celebrations included a balloon release, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a formal discussion session marking the occasion.

The event was attended by senior representatives of the company, including Chairman Toafazzal Hossain, former Chairman Mahmudul Haque Taher, Directors Razia Sultana and Nahrin Rahman, Brigadier General (Retd.) Md Masud Hossain, Chief Executive Officer Md Kazim Uddin, and Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Probir Chandra Das, FCA, along with other members of the executive management team.

Speaking at the programme, Chairman Toafazzal Hossain recalled that National Life Insurance commenced operations on 23 April 1985 as the first private sector life insurance company in Bangladesh. He stated that the company’s establishment marked a significant development in the country’s insurance sector and subsequently encouraged the growth of several other private life insurance companies.

He further noted that the insurance sector plays an important role in the national economy, particularly through the mobilisation of savings. According to him, collected premiums are channelled into banks and other financial institutions, where they contribute to investment activities and broader economic development.

The Chairman also highlighted the company’s long-term contribution to encouraging savings habits among a large segment of the population. He added that National Life Insurance has played a role in supporting investment activities and generating employment opportunities over the decades, thereby contributing to national economic growth. After the discussion session, he joined directors and senior executives in cutting the anniversary cake.

According to company figures, by 2025 National Life Insurance had provided coverage to around 75 lakh policyholders. During this period, it recorded a total premium income of Tk 21,320 crore, while claim payments stood at Tk 12,220 crore. The company’s life fund was reported at Tk 7,018 crore, total assets at Tk 7,751 crore, and total investments at approximately Tk 6,241 crore.

The company further stated that it currently engages approximately 5,000 salaried officers and employees, while supporting around 2 lakh individuals through both direct and indirect employment opportunities linked to its operations.

National Life Insurance also noted that it has received multiple awards and recognitions over the years. In 2023 and 2024, it was honoured by the Government of Bangladesh for highest insurance claim payments, recognised as a top taxpayer, and acknowledged for its contribution to the national economy, alongside several domestic and international awards.
