Rabi Chowdhury Calls for Artists’ Safety After Shooting at Asif Akbar’s Car

Bangladeshi singer Rabi Chowdhury has expressed concern over shots being fired at fellow musician Asif Akbar’s private car, condemning the incident and calling for artists to be protected from violence. He has also urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and identify those responsible.

In a post on his Facebook account, Chowdhury voiced his anger over the attack and questioned whether artists could feel safe amid such incidents. He stressed the need to establish who was behind the shooting and called for those involved to be held accountable.

“After waking up, I saw that my brother Asif Akbar’s car had been attacked. We artists dedicate our lives to entertaining people through music; we do not take lives. Are we all safe? I strongly protest and condemn this incident. An investigation should establish who was responsible. We want security for our lives,” Chowdhury wrote.

His remarks have added to the expressions of concern from within the entertainment industry following the incident. Several other celebrities have also reacted to the shooting, although the details surrounding the incident remain unclear.

The shooting took place early on Saturday, 24 October, in front of Bishal Centre in Moghbazar, Dhaka, when Asif Akbar’s private car was targeted. According to the police, the singer was not inside the vehicle at the time and escaped physical injury.

However, several key questions remain unanswered. The identity of those responsible and their motive have not yet been established. There is also no confirmed information indicating whether the incident was connected to any personal or professional dispute involving Akbar.

A thorough investigation will be necessary to determine the circumstances of the shooting, establish the motive and identify those involved. Until reliable findings emerge, any suggestion about who may have been responsible would remain speculation.

Chowdhury’s response highlights a broader concern about the safety of musicians and other public figures in Bangladesh. Artists frequently participate in concerts, public appearances and cultural events, making personal security an important consideration in their professional lives. Incidents involving violence can also create anxiety among colleagues and others working in the entertainment sector.

The singer’s demand is straightforward: artists should be able to pursue their work without fearing for their lives. He has called for the authorities to establish the facts surrounding the shooting and take appropriate action against those responsible.

For now, the motive behind the attack on Akbar’s car remains unknown. The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in clarifying what happened and determining whether anyone should be held accountable.
