RCB Confirm Play-Off Spot

The race for the play-offs in the ongoing Indian Premier League has reached a decisive stage, with the league phase nearing its conclusion. With only three places remaining in the final four, seven teams are still in contention, keeping qualification scenarios finely balanced.

On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings to become the first team to secure a place in the play-offs. This result confirmed their position in the top four, while also strengthening their involvement in the contest for higher league standings.

So far, only two teams have been eliminated from the competition—Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. The remaining seven sides still have mathematical chances of reaching the play-offs, depending on their remaining fixtures and points outcomes.

Gujarat Titans currently hold the strongest position. Led by Shubman Gill, they require only one win from their final two matches to confirm qualification. Even if they lose both remaining matches, their prospects are not entirely over due to their superior net run rate and current standing. They are also involved in a contest with Royal Challengers Bengaluru for top position in the table.

Sunrisers Hyderabad remain in control of their own qualification scenario. Two wins from their remaining matches would take them to 18 points and ensure a direct place in the play-offs, with a possibility of finishing in the top two. Even a single victory would leave them on 16 points, keeping them in a strong position.

Punjab Kings suffered a setback following their defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Even if they win their final match, their maximum possible total would be 15 points. As a result, their qualification chances now depend not only on their own results but also on outcomes in other fixtures.

Rajasthan Royals have endured a difficult run, losing four of their last five matches. However, they remain in contention. If they win both remaining games, they will reach 16 points and secure a place in the play-offs. A single defeat could push their qualification hopes into reliance on net run rate calculations.

Chennai Super Kings are also still in the race. Winning both of their remaining matches would keep their chances strong, but even one defeat would leave them dependent on other results to progress further.

Kolkata Knight Riders face a situation similar to Punjab Kings. With a maximum of 15 points possible, they must win both remaining matches to stay in contention. Net run rate could also become a decisive factor in their case.

Delhi Capitals are in the most challenging position. Although they kept their hopes alive with a win over Rajasthan Royals, they have only one match remaining and can reach a maximum of 14 points. Therefore, they require not only a significant victory in their final game but also favourable results from several other fixtures to remain in contention.
