Sathkhira Awami League Treasurer Arrested and Sent to Jail

The local political landscape in Bangladesh has seen another high-profile detention as law enforcement officers closed in on fugitive politicians. Police in the south-western district of Sathkhira successfully apprehended a senior regional political figure who had been evading the law in connection with an active criminal case. The swift nocturnal operation highlights ongoing efforts by local security authorities to track down accused individuals associated with pending legal proceedings across rural sub-districts.
According to details provided by the local police administration, the detainee has been identified as 65-year-old Rajyeshwar Dash, a resident of Sarafpur village located within the Shovonali union of Ashashuni upazila. Dash was widely known in regional political circles for holding the role of finance secretary within the Sathkhira district committee of the Awami League. Following recent political shifts and the filing of formal criminal charges against several regional figures, Dash had gone into deep hiding to escape police custody.
The breakthrough leading to his capture occurred late on Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off received through confidential intelligence channels, a specialized team from the Ashashuni police station launched a targeted raid on Dash’s ancestral home in Sarafpur village. The operation was executed swiftly under the cover of darkness to prevent any escape attempt. Officers surrounded the property and successfully took the aging politician into custody without major incident, bringing an end to his months of evading authorities.
Confirming the arrest to the media, Ashashuni police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahangir Arif stated that Dash was named as an accused in a regular criminal case registered at the local station. Because he had failed to appear before investigators or answer court summonses, he was officially classified as a fugitive from justice. The confidential tip ultimately enabled police to pinpoint his location at his private residence, prompting the late-night intervention.
Following his overnight detention at the local police lock-up, procedural formalities were completed early the next morning. On Wednesday, police transported Dash under secure guard to the local judicial courts. During the hearing, the presiding magistrate reviewed the case documents and ordered that the accused be remanded to the Sathkhira district jail pending further judicial proceedings and trial preparation. Investigators noted that routine inquiries related to the ongoing case remain active as authorities continue processing other individuals implicated in local legal investigations.
