In Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj area, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has arrested a drug trafficker named Sohel Rana (37) along with 10 kilogrammes of cannabis. The information was confirmed on Saturday morning (17 May) through a press release issued by RAB-11.
According to RAB, acting on a tip-off, an operational team of RAB-11, CPSP Narayanganj, set up a checkpoint at the ‘10 Tola’ area on the Chattogram–Dhaka highway under Siddhirganj Police Station jurisdiction. The operation was conducted based on confidential intelligence regarding suspected drug transportation through the route.
During the operation, officers searched a Dhaka-bound bus operated by Asia Paribahan. Sohel Rana, who was travelling on the bus in disguise as a passenger, was detained on the spot. Following a search of his possession, RAB recovered 10 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The arrested individual has been identified as the son of Shahjahan from Jangolpur area under Sadar South Police Station in Cumilla district.
RAB-11 Company Commander Lieutenant Commander Naeem Ul Haque stated that a regular case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act at Siddhirganj Police Station.
The arrest forms part of ongoing operations by RAB-11 along major highways to intercept drug trafficking activities. Such operations typically involve setting up temporary checkpoints based on intelligence inputs, followed by the inspection of passenger vehicles and suspected individuals travelling along inter-district routes.
