A 50-year-old CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver died after his vehicle struck a roadside divider on Minto Road in the capital, Dhaka, late on Thursday night. The collision shattered the vehicle’s glass, leaving him with a serious head injury.
The driver, identified as Sanowar Hossain, was rescued from the road and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The accident occurred at around midnight on Thursday, 8 October, in the Minto Road area under Ramna Police Station. Sub-Inspector Abdullah Al Mohsin of Ramna Police Station confirmed the incident.
According to pedestrian Touhid Hossain, who rescued the injured driver, Sanowar was driving his CNG-powered auto-rickshaw at night when the vehicle lost control and struck the roadside divider. The impact shattered the glass, causing a severe injury to his head.
Sanowar was left lying on the road in a bloodied condition following the crash. Touhid came to his aid and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment. However, the doctors declared him dead after he arrived at the hospital.
The precise circumstances that caused the auto-rickshaw to lose control were not immediately known. No further details were available about whether any other vehicle was involved or what factors may have contributed to the collision.
Sanowar’s body has been kept in the mortuary at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His family is expected to complete the necessary formalities regarding the body.
The deceased was originally from Solanga village in Tangail Sadar Upazila. His father’s name was Abdul Karim.
