Tear Gas Deployed as HSC Examinees Ransack Bhola College Centre

A volatile confrontation erupted at an educational institution in Bhola’s Char Fasson sub-district, where Higher Secondary Certificate candidates clashed repeatedly with law enforcement personnel. The violent outbreak forced police units to deploy batons and tear gas to regain control of the designated examination venue, leaving two police officers and eight students injured.

The unrest took place at the Fatima Matin Mohila Degree College centre following intense friction inside the examination halls. Candidates openly protested against the extreme difficulty of the distributed question papers, alongside the rigorous surveillance protocols implemented by the academic invigilators. Tensions boiled over when external supervisors successfully blocked student attempts to use illicit materials or engage in cheating.

Chronology of the Campus Riot

The initial academic protest rapidly degraded into a full-scale riot as the morning testing session drew to a close. Police logs and eyewitness accounts detail a swift escalation across the afternoon:

  • Midday Mobilisation: Instead of leaving the campus, an aggressive faction of candidates gathered in the central courtyard to launch a loud demonstration.

  • The Blockade: The mob converged on the main administrative offices, blockading the centre secretary, the college principal, and the remaining invigilators inside.

  • Property Destruction: Shouting slogans, the rioters forced entry into the administrative wings, smashing furniture and windows in the senior principal’s office before ransacking multiple nearby classrooms.

  • Police Engagement: Dispatched to extract the trapped educators, local police units faced immediate hostility, weathering volleys of thrown bricks from the crowd.

  • Dispersal Operations: Officers executed defensive baton charges and fired multiple tear gas canisters, successfully scattering the remaining rioters into the surrounding streets.

“The candidates were deeply distressed by the difficulty of the paper. This initial frustration turned into outright violence when our anti-cheating protocols were strictly enforced,” confirmed Romana Afroz, the Sub-district Executive Officer.

Medical and Security Responses

Medical responders arrived shortly after the campus was cleared to evaluate the casualties. The two injured officers and several affected students were transported to a nearby sub-district healthcare facility for lacerations, contusions, and severe tear gas inhalation. Additional police units have been stationed around the Fatima Matin Mohila Degree College perimeter to guarantee security for the remaining calendar of exams.

Sub-district Executive Officer Romana Afroz visited the site to inspect the structural damage inflicted upon the college’s administrative centre. She gave assurances that zero tolerance would be extended toward academic vandalism, confirming that the state is currently identifying the primary agitators using available mobile phone footage and institutional records to initiate harsh disciplinary measures.

Providing an investigative update, the Assistant Superintendent of Police for Bhola’s Char Fasson Circle, Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, stated that formal criminal charges are pending. He noted that while the situation remains completely stable under heightened security, the legal department is awaiting a formal written complaint from the college administration before executing arrest warrants against the instigators.
