Teen Killed on Highway Crossing

A 15-year-old boy has died following a road traffic collision on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the Chattogram region of Bangladesh, in a tragic incident that has once again highlighted concerns over pedestrian safety on busy national roads.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the Sonapahar area of Mirsharai Upazila, on the Chattogram-bound lane of the busy Dhaka–Chattogram Highway. The victim, identified as Shahin Alam (15), was the son of Md. Abul Hossain and a resident of East Raipur in Durgapur Union.

According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, Shahin Alam was attempting to cross the highway when a speeding, unidentified vehicle struck him violently. The vehicle reportedly did not stop after the collision and fled the scene immediately, leaving the injured teenager on the road.

Locals quickly rushed to his aid and alerted emergency services. A patrol team from the Zorarganj Highway Police Station reached the location shortly afterwards, rescued the injured boy, and transported him to the Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex (Mastannagar Hospital) for urgent medical treatment.

Despite being admitted and placed under medical supervision, attending doctors declared that he succumbed to his injuries after a short period of treatment. His body was later released to his family following completion of legal formalities.

Police have stated that the offending vehicle could not be immediately identified due to its swift departure from the scene. An investigation has been launched, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Legal proceedings are also underway in connection with the incident.
