Teenager arrested in Bhola for raping six-year-old child

Law enforcement authorities in the remote island upazila of Monpura in Bhola have apprehended a fifteen-year-old adolescent on serious allegations of violating a six-year-old child by luring her with biscuits. This disturbing incident has sparked profound shock and widespread public outrage across the local community, shedding light on the vulnerability of minors in rural areas and the critical need for swift legal intervention.
According to the official First Information Report (FIR) registered at the local police station, the harrowing episode unfolded at around half-past twelve in the afternoon on Thursday, August 27. The accused individual, identified as fifteen-year-old Shakil Alam—who is approximately fifteen years and eight months old—resides within the same union and is the son of local resident Khokon Mia. On the fateful afternoon, the perpetrator reportedly exploited the victim’s young age by offering her biscuits as an inducement, enticing her into the privacy of his residence. Once inside, he bolted the door and subjected the minor to a horrific sexual assault.
The victim’s agonizing cries ultimately alerted her mother, who was searching anxiously for her nearby. Rushing toward the source of the noise, the mother forced her way into the house and discovered her daughter in a severe state of physical distress and trauma.
Following the immediate discovery of the crime, the distraught mother raised an alarm, prompting neighbours and local residents to gather at the scene. Instead of immediately facilitating legal recourse, certain influential figures within the neighbourhood intervened, offering hollow assurances of an informal local settlement or village arbitration. For three agonizing days, the victim’s family was strung along by false promises while community elders attempted to sweep the heinous crime under the rug. Realising that justice was being deliberately delayed and compromised, the courageous mother refused the informal pressure. She proceeded directly to Monpura Police Station and lodged a formal criminal case against the teenager.
Swift action followed the filing of the formal complaint. Police teams launched an immediate operation, tracking down and arresting the primary accused, Shakil Alam, without further delay.
On Sunday, August 30, at approximately midday, the detained adolescent was formally transferred under heavy police escort to the Barishal Juvenile Court to face judicial proceedings suited for minors. Concurrently, the traumatised survivor was dispatched under police supervision to the Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive forensic medical examination and urgent psychological support.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam of Monpura Police Station confirmed to journalists that the main accused in the rape case has been successfully apprehended and produced before the juvenile judiciary. Investigators are meticulously compiling evidence to ensure a robust prosecution, while local child rights advocates are calling for stringent measures to combat crimes against children and prevent illegal local arbitrations in serious criminal matters.
