Textile Supervisor Dies After Falling From Train Near Hardinge Bridge

Police have recovered the body of a 25-year-old readymade garment factory supervisor from alongside the railway tracks near the historic Hardinge Bridge in Bheramara, Kushtia. The deceased, Mohammad Jainal Abedin, was the eldest son of Noya Miah, hailing from Chandonbari Union in the Boda Upazila of Panchagarh district.

The tragedy came to light at approximately 09:00 on Thursday, when local residents spotted a motionless body lying near the western flank of the Hardinge Bridge at Sholdag 68 Para, within the Bahirchar Union. Alarmed by the discovery, locals immediately alerted the police. Officers from Bheramara Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to secure the area, subsequently notifying the Railway Police (GRP) from Poradaha station. The railway officers formally recovered the body around 12:30 and transported it to the GRP station for initial legal proceedings and an inquest report.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Abedin was travelling aboard the intercity Chitra Express, heading towards Khulna from Dhaka, to visit his in-laws. According to Bheramara Railway Station Master Jainal Abedin, the Chitra Express had made its scheduled stop at the station at approximately 01:45 Thursday morning.

Speaking on behalf of the grieving family, the victim’s younger brother, Zahid Hasan, stated that Abedin worked as a supervisor at a garment factory in Gazipur and had left his workplace at around 19:00 on Wednesday evening. Before departing, Abedin had mentioned to his wife that he was struggling to secure a confirmed train ticket amidst the heavy passenger rush on the Dhaka-Khulna route. Despite the ticket shortage, he managed to board the night train, intending to visit his wife’s family in Khulna before travelling onwards to his ancestral home in Panchagarh on Thursday.

Officer-in-Charge of Bheramara Police Station, Mohammad Shamim Sheikh, confirmed that local police acted promptly upon receiving the report and coordinated directly with railway authorities. Mohammad Hossain, In-Charge of the Poradaha Railway Police Station, stated that an inquest report was promptly prepared. Police suspect Abedin accidentally fell from the moving train during the late-night journey, sustaining fatal head trauma upon impact with the hard ground beside the tracks.

Accidental falls from moving trains remain an ongoing hazard across Bangladesh’s rail network. Overcrowded carriages, unsecured vestibule doors, and passengers standing near open doorways due to unreserved travel frequently heighten risks during nocturnal journeys.

While preliminary findings point to a fatal accident, key details regarding how Abedin fell remain under review. Police confirmed that the victim’s family members have been notified and are travelling to receive the body once official post-mortem and administrative formalities conclude.
