Police have arrested three young men in Savar after allegedly recovering a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and eight rounds of live ammunition during an operation in the area.
The arrests were made at around 4.30pm on Thursday (24 September) in the West Rajashan Palowanpara area under Savar Model Police Station.
The arrested men have been identified as Mohammad Hossain, 22, Piyal, 22, and Imon, 24.
Police said the operation was carried out following confidential information about the presence of the three men in the area. A team from Savar Model Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Abdullah Al Masud, conducted the operation. Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Nesar and Kamal Bashar were also part of the team.
During the operation, police detained the three men from an abandoned room at the house of Omar Palowan in West Rajashan Palowanpara.
The officers subsequently searched the detainees and recovered one foreign-made pistol, one magazine and eight rounds of live ammunition, according to police. The seized items were taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
The recovery of a firearm and live ammunition has prompted further investigation into how the weapons came into the possession of the three men. Police are also expected to examine the circumstances in which the men were staying in the abandoned room and whether the seized items were connected to any other incident.
Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam said a case had been filed against the arrested men under the relevant law.
The three suspects were taken into custody following the raid, while the recovered firearm, magazine and ammunition were secured by police. The case will now proceed through the relevant legal process.
Police have not provided further details about the origin of the pistol or the intended use of the ammunition. Such matters will be determined through the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
The operation was conducted in a residential area of Savar, where police acted on information received before entering the abandoned room. The authorities have said the legal process against the three arrested men is under way.
