A 25-year-old factory worker lost his life and two women sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a heavy power trolley in Birganj Upazila of Dinajpur district.
The fatal crash took place at around 8:30 pm on Thursday (8 October) in the Sahebganj Bazar area, located within Ward 8 of Mohanpur Union Number 10. The deceased was identified as Bimal Debnath, a resident of Rangalipara village under Jharbari in Shatagram Union, and the son of Ramesh Debnath.
The two injured passengers were identified as Bimal’s wife, Deepti Debnath, and Rozina Akter, wife of Rakibul Islam from the neighbouring Muchibari Sarkarpara village in the same union.
Local residents reported that all three individuals were employed at the Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in neighbouring Nilphamari district. On Thursday evening, after completing their daily work duties, they set off together on a single motorcycle from Nilphamari, travelling towards their home village in Jharbari.
Disaster struck as they were passing through the Sahebganj Bazar locality. An oncoming engine-driven trolley heading from Jharbari towards Birganj town collided head-on with their motorcycle. The violent impact caused Bimal Debnath to die instantly at the scene from severe trauma. Both female pillion riders were thrown onto the road, sustaining substantial injuries. Nearby villagers rushed to the site upon hearing the crash, quickly evacuating the two injured women and transporting them to a local healthcare facility for emergency medical treatment.
Confirming the details of the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Birganj Police Station, Md Saiful Islam, stated that police officers were dispatched to secure the scene and recover the victim’s body. He confirmed that necessary legal formalities were being completed before handing over the body to the bereaved family, adding that an unnatural death (UD) case is being registered at the police station in connection with the collision.
