Truck Crash Kills Four, Including Three Family Members

A devastating road accident in northern Bangladesh has claimed the lives of four people, including three members of the same family, after a speeding truck rammed into a battery-powered passenger van in Domar upazila of Nilphamari.

The tragic incident occurred at around 3:30pm on Sunday (12 July) on the Domar–Jaldhaka regional road in the Panga Motukpur–Nadia area. The collision left the small vehicle completely wrecked, killing the van driver and three passengers on the spot. Two others were seriously injured in the crash and were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Parimal Barman, son of Oli Barman of Nadiapara village in Domar upazila, and three members of another family from the same area — 28-year-old Pratima Rani, wife of Pradip Barman, and their two sons, eight-year-old Pitosha and four-year-old Yadav.

According to local residents, the battery-powered Mithila van was carrying passengers along the Domar–Jaldhaka road when a high-speed truck approaching from behind suddenly lost control and struck the van with great force. The impact was so severe that the van was crushed, leaving little chance of survival for those inside.

Local people rushed to the scene immediately after the accident and attempted to rescue the injured passengers. Two critically injured individuals were first taken to Domar Upazila Health Complex for emergency care. As their conditions deteriorated, doctors referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

The accident caused grief and shock among residents of the area, particularly because three victims belonged to the same family. Such incidents have once again raised concerns over road safety, reckless driving and the growing risks faced by passengers travelling on regional roads.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the crash and recovered the bodies for legal procedures. Domar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Habibullah said that the necessary steps were being taken in accordance with the law.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances behind the accident, including whether excessive speed or loss of control by the truck driver contributed to the collision. The incident has also renewed calls from local residents for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations on busy regional routes to prevent further loss of life.
