Two Arrested with 40,000 Yaba Tablets in Teknaf Raid

The Coast Guard has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized 40,000 yaba tablets in a special operation in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Three easy-bikes allegedly used to transport the drugs and two mobile phones were also confiscated. The estimated value of the seized tablets is around Tk 20 million, according to the Coast Guard.

The arrested men have been identified as Ferdous and Md Kawsar. The operation took place at around 11am on Saturday, 17 October, near Keruntali in Teknaf upazila.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, media officer of the Coast Guard, disclosed the details of the operation on Saturday. He said the Coast Guard Station Teknaf acted on confidential information about suspected drug trafficking in the area.

During the operation, Coast Guard personnel stopped and searched three suspicious easy-bikes. The search led to the recovery of 40,000 yaba tablets, along with two mobile phones. The three vehicles, which were allegedly being used to transport the drugs, were also seized. Two men were detained in connection with the incident.

One easy-bike driver managed to flee after noticing the presence of Coast Guard personnel. His identity was not immediately disclosed, and no further details were provided about efforts to locate him.

Following the operation, the two detainees and the seized tablets, vehicles and mobile phones were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action, the Coast Guard media officer said.

Yaba, a stimulant drug containing methamphetamine, has long been a concern for law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh. Teknaf’s location near the Myanmar border makes the area an important focus of efforts to prevent the cross-border movement of illegal drugs. Security agencies conduct operations in the region to intercept suspected consignments and identify those involved in their transportation and distribution.

The latest seizure represents a substantial quantity of tablets, with an estimated value of Tk 20 million. The confiscation of the three vehicles may also help investigators examine how the suspected consignment was being transported. However, the authorities have not released details about the alleged source of the drugs, their intended destination or whether the two arrested men were part of a wider trafficking network.

The role of the driver who escaped also remains unclear. Further investigation will be needed to establish the circumstances of the alleged trafficking operation and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The two men have been handed over to the police, who will take the next steps under the law. Their arrest does not in itself establish guilt; the allegations will be subject to the relevant legal process.
