Two brothers have been shot and wounded by unidentified miscreants in separate, sequential attacks in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The incidents occurred on Tuesday evening at two separate locations in close proximity within the Yarpur Union of Ashulia. Law enforcement authorities preliminarily suspect that the shootings stem from a dispute over control of local cable television and internet services.
Details of the Incident
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Ismail, aged 35, and his younger brother, Mohammad Shipon, aged 32. According to eyewitnesses and Sabuj Sarkar, a local cable and internet businessman, the first attack took place at approximately 21:30 BST in an alley adjacent to the Virtual Garments factory in the Chhoytola area of Yarpur Union.
Mohammad Ismail was seated at the location when nine individuals arriving on three motorcycles opened fire on him. Ismail sustained gunshot wounds to his back and right leg.
Immediately after the first shooting, the assailants fled the scene on their motorcycles and targeted Ismail’s younger brother, Mohammad Shipon, who was seated behind the nearby Rural Electrification Board (Palli Bidyut) office. The gunmen opened fire on Shipon, wounding him in his right thigh, before fleeing the area.
An anonymous local resident confirmed that nine men on three motorcycles executed the dual shootings in rapid succession before making a swift escape. Local residents subsequently rescued the injured brothers and transported them to a nearby medical facility.
Medical Response and Victim Status
The brothers were initially admitted to the Ashulia Women and Children’s Hospital at approximately 22:00 BST. Harun Or Rashid, the hospital manager, confirmed that both patients exhibited distinct gunshot wounds. Following the administration of emergency primary care, both victims were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.

Business Associations and Official Statements
Sabuj Sarkar, who operates the cable and internet business in the Chhoytola area, stated that Shipon is his neighbour and an occasional assistant in his business operations. Commenting on the motive, Sarkar expressed ambiguity regarding the targeted nature of the attacks. He noted that he had not previously experienced any disputes regarding his business operations and questioned why the perpetrators targeted the two brothers at separate locations if the primary motive was related to his commercial rivals. He called upon the police administration to identify the root cause and apprehend the suspects swiftly.
Mohammad Tariqul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station, stated that initial police assessments point towards a conflict regarding the territorial control of the internet and cable television market. The Officer-in-Charge further noted that no formal complaint or case had been lodged with the police at the time of reporting. Law enforcement operations are currently underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
