Two Killed in Gaibandha Crash

At least two people have been killed and five others injured following a head-on collision between a pickup van and a battery-powered easy-bike in Gaibandha Sadar upazila of northern Bangladesh.

The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday at around 11:30am on the Gaibandha–Darirpur road in the Baroipara area. The collision involved a passenger-carrying easy-bike and a mini pickup van loaded with poultry, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles and causing multiple casualties at the scene.

According to local sources, the easy-bike was travelling from Darirpur market towards Gaibandha town with several passengers on board. As it reached Baroipara, it collided head-on with an oncoming poultry-laden pickup van. The impact of the crash was described as devastating, leaving both vehicles heavily wrecked.

Two people died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Farid Mia (50), the driver of the easy-bike, and Rustam Ali (30), a passenger. Farid Mia was a resident of Chatnabari village under Shreepur Union in Sundarganj upazila, while Rustam Ali lived in Dakshin Analterari village of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

At least five other passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Locals rushed to the scene immediately after the collision and rescued the injured individuals. They were first taken to Gaibandha General Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of their conditions, doctors referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

Eyewitnesses reported that the collision occurred at high speed, giving neither vehicle sufficient time to avoid impact. The force of the crash left the easy-bike almost completely mangled, while the pickup van also suffered significant damage.

Police later confirmed the incident and stated that both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash. The pickup van driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, and efforts are underway to locate him. Law enforcement officers were deployed to the site to assist with rescue operations and restore traffic flow on the busy road.

Authorities have indicated that the death toll may rise if the condition of the injured deteriorates further.
