Police have arrested a 26-year-old woman in possession of yaba tablets during a raid in Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj. Officers said they recovered a quantity of the suspected narcotic from a residential property in Kushiuড়া village.

The woman has been identified as Hosna Ara Begum, wife of Ayaz Ali of Kironpara village in Banglabazar Union. Police described her as being involved in the illegal drug trade.

The raid was conducted at around 10pm on Thursday following information received by police about the alleged presence of narcotics at a house in Kushiuড়া village. A team led by Sub-Inspector Sanjoy Dutta of Dowarabazar Police Station carried out the search.

Police said 600 yaba tablets were recovered during the operation and Hosna Ara Begum was detained at the scene. However, the initial report puts the total quantity at 630 tablets and estimates their value at around Tk189,000. The discrepancy between the two figures has not been explained in the information available, and the final quantity would be determined from the seizure list and case records.

Yaba, a tablet containing methamphetamine, is a widely trafficked illicit drug in Bangladesh. Its possession, sale and distribution are offences under the country’s narcotics laws, and police regularly conduct raids based on intelligence regarding suspected drug storage and trafficking.

In this case, police have not provided details about where the seized tablets were allegedly sourced from or whether the woman was suspected of supplying them to others. No information has been given about any other arrests connected with the seizure.

Dowarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam Talukder confirmed the arrest and said a case had been filed against the accused woman.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the seized tablets and determine whether anyone else was involved. The allegations against the arrested woman will be dealt with through the legal process.
