Youth Fatally Hacked Amid Money Dispute Claim

A 35-year-old man was hacked to death in Bogura city late on Friday night, with his family alleging that the killing stemmed from a long-running dispute over approximately Tk 1 million in unpaid dues. Police have launched an investigation but say the exact motive behind the murder has yet to be established.

The victim, Arif Sheikh, was the son of Aziz Sheikh and a resident of the Latifpur Colony area of Bogura. According to Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali, the attack took place at around 12:15 am on Friday near Priti Government Primary School in Latifpur Colony.

Police said local residents discovered Arif lying in a pool of blood at around 1:00 am and immediately alerted the authorities. Officers rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for a post-mortem examination. Investigators found multiple sharp weapon injuries on various parts of his body, indicating that he had been subjected to a violent assault.

Relatives of the deceased claim the attack was premeditated. They alleged that individuals linked to the opposing side had been searching for Arif since Friday afternoon. According to family members, the assailants waited until they found him alone before attacking him with sharp weapons and fleeing the scene.

Arif’s sister, Rumi Begum, alleged that her brother was owed nearly Tk 1 million by their maternal uncle, identified as Badal. She claimed that tensions over the unpaid money had continued for some time and accused Badal of arranging the killing by hiring several individuals, including men identified as Selim, Jibon and Nahid. These allegations have been made by the family and have not been independently verified by investigators.

Police have not confirmed the family’s claims and say every possible motive is being examined. Investigators are collecting witness statements, reviewing available evidence and attempting to identify everyone involved in the attack.

Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali said Arif had previously been named in several criminal cases, including allegations related to murder, illegal arms, robbery and narcotics. He cautioned, however, that investigators have not yet determined whether those past cases had any connection to the fatal assault.

The police official stressed that the investigation remains at an early stage and that no conclusion has been reached regarding the motive. Detectives are awaiting the post-mortem report and other forensic findings, which are expected to provide further insight into the circumstances of the killing.

Law enforcement agencies have launched operations to trace and arrest those responsible. Police say all available evidence will be thoroughly examined before any final determination is made, and they have pledged to bring those involved to justice once the investigation is complete.
